About the Music
Crafted with magic, myth and folklore, Bye Bye Banshee combines elements of alternative folk and classical music to create songs about death from a feminine, pagan perspective. Bye Bye Banshee is the side project of songwriter Jezebel Jones. Bye Bye Banshee's first EP--Deathfolk Magic--was released to the public on October 5, 2018.
The first song, "If I Die in My Dreams", explores the idea that our inherent fear of death is closely linked to our fear of the Devil. Although the Irish Banshee is often misinterpreted as strictly a terrifying creature, "Bye Bye Banshee" portrays her as a empathetic ghost who warns us that Death is approaching. The song "Psychopomps" describes the spirit guides who surround a dying person, comforting them as they transition into the land of the dead, while "Skull Rattles" celebrates natural burial as our final gift to the earth.
Bye Bye Banshee participates in--and actively promotes--the death positive movement. If you would like to learn more about the philosophy behind the movement, check out this page on the Order of the Good Death website.
